Herndon is the largest town found in Virginia Fairfax County. It was named after William Lewis Herndon who was a sea captain in Central America in 1858. Back in those days, it used to be a dairy farming center as well as a retreat site during summer. This is what resulted to its growth. According to census done in 2012 there is a population of 23,292 people. The growth of Herndon town started
in 1870s when people started settling there because land was less expensive. The moderate climate also contributed to growth since people were coming to do trade from different parts of America. Herndon occupies 10.9km2 of lands per United States census bureau.
There are different companies in this town which has lead to economical growth. This includes Dulles technology corridor, AOL, XO communication and many others. The town is governed by a mayor and town council. It has the best schools such as Fairfax county public schools, Aldrin Elementary school, Herndon high school not forgetting Herndon fortnightly library which is run by Fairfax county public library. Its main attractions and activities includes the Manassas national battlefield, Herndon depot museum, golf course, basketball, racquetball, national air and space museum, oatlands plantations, old dominion trail, frying pan park, wolf trap national park where arts are performed among others. There are various celebrations that go on throughout the year among them Herndon council for the rats which is held in the month of April,, farmers market, Friday night live which is a free entry concert, public works forest, town square singers and big truck days which are held from May up to August every year. Others include Herndon festival which is held for four days of the month of June. July fourth there is firework celebrations, and Labor Day jazz festival, annual motorcycle poker run and annual nature fest celebrations held in the month of September. All these attract visitors from different parts of the world.
